MAYA is a poetic singer-songwriter and rebel with a cause. In her indie-folk songs, you can hear Arabic and classical influences that she blends with spoken word and her warm vocals. With perceptive lyrics in Dutch and English, she speaks with gentle strength about the shaded and the sunny. MAYA works with visual disciplines such as animation and the overhead projector, expressed in music videos and live visuals. Together with her introspective music, this creates an intimate world of comfort and raw expression.

The 22-year-old graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory in 2023. During her studies, she played at ESNS, at Tivoli as the closing act for Racoon and Nils Frahm, and as a support act for Ciao Lucifer. In 2020, MAYA released her debut. Her fans and the press received the mini-EP Alined well, including 3voor12. That same year, she won Kunstbende Utrecht and was a finalist in the International Young Songwriter competition by Song Academy. A year later, her spoken word piece ranked in the top 5 of the ILFU story competition. Since then, she has released 2 singles, played many shows, studied abroad at the Popakademie in Germany, and completed her study at the HKU Conservatory in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
